Safety glasses have come a long way. Remember the old thick lenses and the geeky-looking frames. They were uncomfortable and heavy and made you look like the kids that got picked on back in the old schoolyard days. Just the thought of it gives me flasbacks. The glasses available now are such an improvement over the old style that you really enjoy wearing them and at the same time they are actually more safe. They come in so many cool frame styles and shades that you have to doulble check to make sure they were meant for eye-protection!

Safety glasses today meet a wide range of needs and tastes too. It's not just a one size fits all design mentality any longer. You can get glasses styled after everything from your favorite NASCAR driver to your favorite outdoor sport like shooting or even camoflouge for hunting. Odds are, you can also find your favorite college team logo glasses. If you are feeling patriotic like a lot of us are these days, you can even show your pride by wearing a pair of safety glasses with the American flag stamped prominently on the lens to let everybody know "These colors don't run!".

As far as needs go, the glasses today automatically meet OSHA standards for safety and they block out 99% of those harmful ultraviolet rays but they go a step farther. Most of the glasses are made in the "wraparound" style. This means that the lenses wrap around your face to cover the corners of your eyes and thus protect your vulnerable peripheral vision almost completely. Gone are the days of those old glasses with the side shields that limit your peripheral sight and make you feel like you have tunnel vision all day.

This breakthrough in safety glass design not only makes the work environment safer but the recreation evnvironment too. Think of all the recreation activities that have benefited from these new styles of glasses. Speaking as an avid outdoorsman, I can tell you these new cool glasses are great for water sports like; boating, fishing, skiing and other outdoor activities like motorcycle riding, four-wheeling, and off-roading. Shooting and hunting are obvious examples of sports where safety is paramount and now readily available in practical stylish designs.

The bottom line is: Whether you require eye-protection for work or play There is no reason you shouldn't have it! Today's safety glasses are more light, comforfortable, safe and affordable than ever before and if you want to keep on working hard and playing hard, It's in your best interest to do everything you can to protect your eyesight!
